The Faith Academy of Marble Falls volleyball team crushed Temple Holy Trinity 25-11, 25-14, 25-12 Oct. 10.

The win keeps the Lady Flames (3-7) one match behind Waco Live Oak for fourth in the District 3-3A standings of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools. The two teams meet at The Fire Pit at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17.

Against Holy Trinity, the Lady Flames were commanding from the get-go, racing to a 20-8 advantage in the first set and never letting the Celtics get comfortable.

The second set was much like the first with Faith sprinting to a 16-8 advantage and keeping that gap throughout the set. The game ended on a service ace by sophomore Bosley Kuker.

The Celtics stepped back on the court for the third set determined not to be swept. But Faith continued to have answers, even when Holy Trinity took a two-point lead.

Senior outside hitter Kaytlyn Wood tied the set with a kill then junior Hadley Shipley served three consecutive aces. And just like that, the Lady Flames took a 13-7 lead and weren’t seriously threatened again.

It also helped that so many contributed to the scoring: senior middle blocker Brooke Farmer with a kill from the middle of the court, junior outside hitter Jillian Martin with service aces, and a directional tip by senior outside hitter Milayna Garcia.

Faith played textbook volleyball with great sets from junior Abigail Blackington and Shipley and thunderous spikes from their teammates.

“Kaytlyn had some phenomenal kills, we had some good passes and good serves,” head coach Erin Sawyer said. “I wanted to play my seniors; they came in spots they routinely don’t play. The girls filled in where they needed to.”

She noted seeing her athletes enjoy playing and moving as one unit was fun to watch. The packed house also appreciated the way the Lady Flames competed in not allowing Holy Trinity to get into any sort of rhythm.

“It’s big,” she said. “I thought coming in and having a good outlet and upbeat attitude is huge. They were there for each other.”

This victory comes on the heels of losing to the top three teams in the district. Three-time defending state champion Round Rock Christian, which is currently in first place, won 25-10, 25-23, 25-17 Sept. 28. Bryan Brazos Christian, which is in second place, won 25-8, 25-11, 25-10 Oct. 3, and Temple Central Texas Christian, which is in third place, won 22-25, 27-25, 25-11, 25-14 Oct. 5.

Faith Academy travels to Waco Reicher Thursday, Oct. 12, with the junior varsity playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity to follow.
